This is a question which has been bothering me for some time. I think that the answer hinges on what grade pupils need in 5 points to make it worthwhile doing instead of a 4 point exam. I've been told by one source that the grade is 80 otherwise it is better to get a higher grade for 4 points. I have an excel spreadsheet on my computer which allows me to calculate and predict final bagrut grades. What I try to impress on my pupils is that it is most important to get a high grade (over 90) on module E. This gives them a safety net for the rest of the exam. Assuming that they will do well on the Oral exam (if they don't, they shouldn't be 5-pointers) they will be able to afford to drop points on F and G -- this will probably happen as marks are deducted for writing mistakes in these 2 modules. So a grade of 92 in module E, 70 in F, 70 in G and 92 in the Oral comes out as a final grade of 80. I think that it is reasonable to expect this from a 5- pointer. Hope this helps Shabbat Shalom David Graniewitz Jerusalem our 9th grade accelerated class- which so many of you helped me with - will start 10th grade next year. the idea, of course, is to do E in 10th grade, and F, G (the lit F if we need to) in 11th. i have heard of schools who have the kids and their parents sign a contract that they will do the bagrut in the 11th grade only if their magen ("school grade" ) is over a certain grade. otherwise, they will continue in the 12th grade with a regular 5 point class. do any of your schools do this? for E? or only for F, G? And if so, what is the "cutoff" grade? do you think it is a good idea? as usual, thanks for your feedback! sara g ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
