WE are ahead of our time? Adele, your link goes to the Great Books Federation, which has been around for several decades. They have wonderful ways oif teaching literature, and they gave amazing hishtalmuyot here during the '90's. We had a GBF project at Shaar HaNegev that was very successful. Then, as usual, the Ministry said, "Well, that was nice. What tasty tidbit shall we sample now?" If you google HOTS, you will find Bloom's Taxonomy - hardly new. If teachers-to-be aren't learning about that, then we certainly are in trouble. But giving it a new name and pretending it's an innovation just isn't honest. And a word to some teachers who have been saying that HOTS have to be taught in elementary school - not everything should be taught in the earliest grades. As children grow and develop, their capacity for High Order Thinking does, too. The earliest grades are when they learn LOTS, and gradually they progress to HOTS. English teachers should be a part of this progress. Of course, in the present school system, where we have very few instances of teachers of different subjects and disciplines working together - don't get me started. -- "Music will save the world."
