Hi all,
My name is Ami Yares, I am a musician, educator, and social activist based
in Jaffa. Last year with the financial support of the US Embassy in
Israel's Public Affairs Office, I established FocUS Music (www.focusmusic.us).
FocUS Music reaches students through music in order to show the social
adversities and victories of American Society and empower students to be
more aware and proactive of issues in their own communities. The program is
offered as a series of seven-sessions, one-off programs, and concerts
geared for middle and high school students as well as college students.
From 2011-12, FocUS Music reached over 300 Arab and Jewish high school and
college students in 11 different locations throughout Israel. These 300
students actively participated in a music-based, cross-disciplinary
academic program that includes the following components:

American democracy and values,
American social history and current event
English language skills improvement  and development
Arab and Jewish partnership
Social Activism and non-violent communication
Critical thinking skills,
Social Networking and Dialogue through Facebook FocUS Music group

FocUS Music was also featured at two ETAI conference last year and provides
training to teachers to use music in a wide variety of applications.
