To be fair to the ministry the only way we can learn what is expected of us in terms of the new modular bagrut is by way of exam experience. This will take us some time to acquire, but it seems a dreadful shame that the first batch of students writing in the new system have to be the ones who suffer for, perhaps, our inexperience. Their results are very important to them and the students who wrote the modular bagrut this year seem to have drawn the short straw. I must respectfully voice my objection to the refusal of the markers and the ministry to accept "sentimental" as well as "humorous." The wrong choice here cost students 12 marks. At a recent meeting in Haifa teachers were united in their ondemnation of this. The piece on wooden pencils was nostalgic and because of this a sentimental tone was the choice of many English teachers. If this uncertainty existed amongst teachers surely students should not be expected to find clarity. How are we to explain this drop in grades to our students and their parents? How are we to explain it to ourselves? Joan Orkin. ##### To send a message to the ETNI list email: etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ##### ##### Send queries and questions to: ask@xxxxxxxx #####
