**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** From: "laurie sapir" <lfs22@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: module E results Dear fellow Etnians, After reading the many comments regarding the modlule E bagrut test, I wanted to add my two cents and be counted. I feel the Ministry must take into consideration: 1. what Sharon Tsur wrote about the kind of questions asked and what percentage of the total they should comprise (black and white vs. higher cognitive level questions) 2. Terri Benor 's remarks (which mirror my experience exactly) - that test results were way off vis-a-vis our top students, despite our rigorous demandsand the fact that we also maintain high standards when we mark their exams 3. Nina Golumb's suggestion (some kind of compensation for this year's students who were the guinea pigs). I never before criticized a bagrut test, because I believe that a test should not be totally predictable and results assured. Just as in the real world, students have to be prepared for almost anything on a test, and live with the results. This time, however, is different. I strongly feel we need more questions worth fewer points, to be fair. And it's OK to test intellilgent thinking based on a text, but the majority of the q;uestions should test pure reading comprehension. My top 5 point class saw only one student get in the 90's. This is a class that read the entire play of Romeo and Juliet this year for literature and did a great job with it. This class includes native speakers, and many high level students, who all got in the low 80's. MORE QUESTIONS WORTH FEWER POINTS - TO BE FAIR! There is now a big gap between the school grade and thebagrut test grade. We can say it's only 1/3 of the entire bagrut but to the kids it's a blow. Sincerely, Laurie Sapir ##### To send a message to the ETNI list email: etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ##### ##### Send queries and questions to: ask@xxxxxxxx #####
