Fay, you are so right !! I had to leave regular teaching because I couldn't
afford it ! The English teachers in my experience are among the most devoted of
all teachers, perhaps because many of us came on Aliya for ideological reasons
and remain idealists, seeing education and broadening our pupils' horizons as a
vocation.
Now, picture all sorts of undoubtedly wonderful, talented and motivated people,
professionals in some other field, walking into our classrooms of 40 teens or
children, without knowing the culture, the language or how to teach !
Basil Fawlty would say "This is rich!" or , possibly, "BRILLIANT!"
And I say : The Best of British Luck to all !
My suggestion for a name for the project : "LEAP OF FAITH".
