I personnally took old samples of meitsav and practised them in class.
I taught my kids the techniques of reading comprehension.
We used the story book 1 and 2 as well as for reading comprehension and
for the listening comprehension with the cassettes.
We reviewed the vocabulary with lots of ex. as they appear in the
meitsav.
We learned the grammar with lots of practice with ex.
And most of all we read a lot and practised the understanding of
instructions and strategies of taking a test - like begin with what you
know, check your answer, skip the ex. you don t know, return back
everything that should be known - but it has to be said to get them
confident.
I must say that each lesson I told and tell them that they know english
and that they are able to succeed, believe me or not it helps
Another strategy we worked on was the writing, the order of a sentence,
the spelling, and as it appeared in almost every test, a few lines
about themselves.
I must say that we did samples with my help, or , [partly with my
help], till they were able to do the whole alone.
 good luck
