I was under the impression that the Module booklets, which were published by ECB and UPP, did not have Ministry approval. These booklets were published in response to a demand by teachers for Matric Prep unseens. The mock exams that were offered by ECB were based on the mock exams and instructional material in the NBA handbook. We were all guessing and because our students knew this, they weren't as surprised as they might have been when they sat for their exams. Let's hope a definite pattern begins to emerge in Moed B. Moreover, the Ministry and the powers that be at Machon Szold see fit to publish a teacher's guide that defines the levels and standards that have been predetermined for each level. Giving those of us in the field more than just a few hints as to exam content (e.g. those that were filtered down to us at NBA courses) would be helpful. Including our input would be divine. I believe we would all like to see the English language taught on a higher level in Israel, the direct result being a higher level of proficiency among our students. However, this has to be done gradually and our expectations, as well of those in the testing department, must be realistic. In my opinion, "backward planning" may be an option in project work, but in testing it leaves something to be desired. Wishing the best of luck to all of our pupils on Thursday.
