Don't tell on me, but at our Ulpana, we DON'T figure out the öéåï îâï
according to the NBA; otherwise the difference between bagrut performance
and the magen will be so great as to endanger our being able to give
magenim. We give a magen according to what we feel the girl will get on the
exam. ( i.e. my moed B 11th graders did 5 matkonot; I averaged out the 4
highest and took into account attendance, h.w.; seriousness in the project
work, but NOT the project grades which were MUCH higher than the
matkonot. The Project (30% of the grade) I figure into the report card grade.
Otherwise, the situation is ludicrous.
About teaching literature, let us not be naive; I know of teachers that do
the bare minimum, only 1/2 of what they should. (I am NOT among them as I
love teaching literature and feel it is important. ) As a whole, we English
teachers are the "creme de la creme" of educators, but as in all groups,
there are always lazy ones. I too wish the literature would be tested, as
this would motivate the kids to take it seriously.
Still waiting for an offer for a ride to the F2F meeting at Matach on July
2nd. (will help pay for gas; anyone from Beer Sheva or Ashkelon going? HELP!
Thanks- Esther
