 Dear Fellow English teachers.

I have been following the comments and criticism being written about
the New
Bagrut with much interest. I can understand why people are angry but I
feel
that teachers are getting carried away and blowing everything out of
proportion. Yes the Moed A New moduluar Bagrut (E/F and G for the
most)
was a bad test. But this doesn't mean the whole modular Bagrut idea is
bad.

I actually think it's a great idea. My students who did the Moed A.
exam
(30 A+ 11th graders) did pretty well and those that didn't or who fell
on one
section could and many did retest on Moed B. The beauty of the idea is
that
they didn't have to redo the whole test.
And , yes Moed B was much better.

I understand that change is hard for all of us. However I believe it
keeps
us on our toes working to be better teachers...I don't feel I am
teaching
my students only to pass the Bagrut. My 11th graders who took the test
this
year did many interesting things over the 3 years I taught them. We
read
All My Sons" and many other lovely stories , we did a creative writing
project, a research project, a music project and so much more...We
lived
and laughed in English and therefore on the whole most of them did
well on >
 the test .

We shouldn't be so afraid of change. Yes, it has it's problems and
anything
new will not be perfect but all in all the change will be good for us.
If we
remember that we are in the classroom to teach English for life . In
the
old tests the kids could pass because they knew how to take a test and
not
 necessarily because they knew English.

I agree that perhaps the English inspectorate needs to be more aware of
our
needs and needs to at least listen to us. But lets not 'bit off our
noses
to spite our face"... Everything is not bad..(at least in our
field!!!).

I for one will embrace the changes and roll with the punches and see
the
new Bagrut as a challenge...I hope others will try to this too.
