-------- Original Message -------- Subject: re:To talk about the war or not From: "katie sh" <fosters37@xxxxxxxxxxx> I totally disagree with Judi G and agree 100% with Les. It's not only " those unfortunate few who lost someone close or whose house was physically damaged". There are so many pupils who still suffer from nightmares, loss of apatite, anxiety, depression and many other symptoms. To come to school, even as English teachers and not talk about it will show great disrespect for those children. Judi, you don't really have to have your house damaged, in order to feel like a war survivor. Do you think 2 weeks "holiday" is enough after spending 34 days in a bomb shelter? or after being away from one's parents for that long? as a homeroom teacher I would like all teachers to talk to the kids about it (maybe just us, northern teachers). Maybe there is this one pupil who'll open up to you (as they often do in English classes), not being able to talk to anyone else. I know that as northern Kibbutz member and a mother of 3, and as a person who unfortunately could not leave the area, I will carry this trauma for a very long time. I just hope that kids recover faster.
