I have committed myself to a lesson to average students in
Grade Nine (Tet) on Conjunctions of Contrast. Page 26 in Fast Forward.
For the life of me I can't think of a good explanation of the
difference in meaning and usage between 'although' and 'however'.
My grammar sources and on-line research refer to coordinate and
subordinate sentences, conjunctive adverbs and subordinating
conjunctions. However, I dread trying to explain weighing up the
relative value of an idea (in grammatical terms).
Does anyone have any ideas? Unfortunately, skipping this lesson is
not an option.
Not less important. Does anyone have ideas about how to make
this interesting? Not surprisingly, I haven't found anything.
