CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
SCIENCE FORUM THEATRE WORKSHOP
With the ARC Theatre Company from the UK
www.arctheatre.com
8-9 March 2006
British Council Israel calls for applications from scientists, playwrights,
actors, directors, science teachers, science communicators, and drama and
science students, to participate in a special workshop mixing theatre and
science.
The Science Forum Theatre Workshop will aim to build a core group of science
communicators who will work with the British Council and its partners, the
Hemda Science Education Centre Tel Aviv and the Bloomfield Science Museum
Jerusalem, using forum theatre to engage audiences with the issues
surrounding climate change.
The objectives of this training are:
To enable the initial development of informed, skilful and creative
facilitators
To participate in forum theatre performance events focussed on the theme of
climate change
ARC Theatre is an innovative combination of traditional dialogue-based
events with interactive forum theatre, using drama to explore the choices we
make and their consequences on a personal and global scale. Drama is a safe
way of getting people to talk about and confront issues and challenging
their assumptions, while forum theatre is about change. The use of forum
theatre to engage audiences with the issues surrounding climate change
allows them to view things from different perspectives, and to advise the
characters and decide the outcomes.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned the use of ARC's
innovative methodology to engage the public with issues surrounding science
and technology. The workshop will cover story structure session - scenario
creation and devising - how to research the science - working with
scientists - character creation - improvisation and forum theatre
performance and direction technique - audience dialogue and management.
The training team will be lead by CLIFFORD OLIVER (Olly), Creative Director
and Resident Writer. Olly began his career in the theatre as an actor with
the Theatre Royal, Stratford East. After touring the USA in 1984, he
discovered his passion for storytelling, which has been widely documented
through research projects, documentary films and the Dartington Theatre
Papers.
