CAT (Curriculum-Anchored Teaching) Course for JHS Teachers

No, it's not a course in zoology, nor even a course on taking care of pets!
The acronym may be misleading, but it does suggest traits of independence
and self-sufficiency which are central themes in education today.
Curriculum- anchored teaching is about embedding your teaching in the
curriculum and enhancing your classroom practice in keeping with the spirit
of its principles and requirements, and in doing so raising the achievement
of all your pupils.

It is well-known that teachers in junior high school are faced with unique
and often daunting challenges - dealing with early adolescents and their
unique developmental, social and emotional problems on the one hand and with
a growing gap between the more advanced students and those who need extra
support and attention. How do you cope with cognitive, developmental, social
and emotional needs of a heterogeneous population?

The CAT course may not have all the answers, but it offers you an
opportunity to enhance your knowledge in pedagogical areas such as reading
instruction, developing writing skills, and diverse assessment procedures,
and thus provide you with an extended repertoire for suiting your classroom
practice to the needs of diverse student population.

The CAT course is a 56-hour course carrying half a gmul with a grade and is
given under the auspices of the English Inspectorate. You can choose the
mode of delivery that suits you, either as a face-to-face course at the
Pisgot or as an online course with a number of face-to-face meetings.
