Subject: Computer programs for learning English

I need your help. For the past 3 years, Shfeya has been part of the Branco Weiss Atidim Project designed to provide previously low achieving students with the skills and knowlege necessary for them to succeed in 4-5 point Bagrut Exams. We have, so far been successful with about 50% of our 12th grade students who completed the C module last year and will be doing the D and E Modules this year. The rest of the class will be doing 3 point exams as have most of our Mabar students during previous years.
We also have Atidim classes in the 9th and 10th grades.

Although our students have been very successful in their exams at the 3 point level for many years at Shfeya AND during the past 2 years, almost 100% of our 12th graders have successfully completed 1, 3, 4 or 5 point exams, we still have not figured out how to significantly increase the number of students doing Bagrut at the highest levels.
After many years of teaching experience, my conclusions that the main differences between " 3 point students " and " 4 point students" are motivation, confidence, self discipline and exposure to the English language. Needless to say, most of our residential students have not grown up in language rich environments and have not had access to media and computers , which most other students in the country are exposed to. In addition to the successful teaching methods which we are already using, I would like to add something different to our approach and curriculum. Although we have 3 computer labs with access to the internet, we still do not take advantage of the computers as a learning tool except for research for projects in the 11th grade. I would like to know about any computer programs, available on line or for sale, which are effective and user friendly for weak and average students which we could adapt for use in our school. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Lauren Stern Kedem
