----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor" <eleanorz541@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: Inspectors reply projects HOTS Avi Tsur hardly needs me to "defend" him BUT, to David and my colleagues who have not done projects: don't kill the messenger! A forum is a forum --it is not a secret communication. Many inspectors ( and counselors etc) read the forum and have replied: isn't that part of their professionalism? Avi Tsur has written numerous times on the forum and I am sure he has provided assistance as well as simple information to many of us. By writing to Judy, he is informing her that there is a problem -- something the writer was well aware of. It is important that those of us who follow sanctions recognize the predicament we and our pupils are in. Ministry policy IS "the law" -- this is no secret. One can hardly expect the Inspectors who instituted this policy to be forgiving . As long as most of the teachers are doing the projects, the few that aren't are stuck in the middle. Those among us who tried to comply recognized this problem -- or should have -- when the names and phone numbers of testers came round. Also ג€“ the subject was raised on the forum many times in the late fall. Clearly, you are not alone, but apparently not enough people have stood up against the projects. There is power in numbers. We have all been doing the projects for years (since about 2002 ) WITHOUT hours/pay/gmulim despite promises. We are "friarim. As long as we continue to do extra work for free, why should anybody pay us? Some of us think the projects are great, some think they are a farce: it is irrelevant. We are doing extra work for free. The Civics (Ezrahut ) teachers have gotten a gmul in money and 0.4 hour gmul the year their projects are submitted. Their whole program has been doubled in hours ( = hours + gmulim, all pensionable ) in order to implement Their HOTS. Apropos projects and HOTS : the workload/money is a separate argument from the pedagogy Some are for, some are against, but everyone realizes that both involve extra work -- they are labor intensive programs for the teachers if done properly. I am sure ( having corresponded with dozens of teachers ) that there are teachers who won't implement the HOTS program until there is a FAIR (emphasize that FAIR!) remuneration, and there are others who say they won't no matter what. The HOTS has led MANY MANY MANY teachers to say " Ad Kan" -- enough is enough -- 60 schools at least, which means about 250-300 teachers are refusing to comply until the program is drastically changed . There is power in numbers As long as there are so many teachers who say "NO", someone will listen. Not enough teachers have said "No" to the projects -- and the issue there was ONLY about money -- and so we are being ignored. The Irgun (rightfully from their point of view) says DON'T DO THEM, but if it is only a smattering of teachers, no one will listen. Avi Tsur openly said -- in his way -- you/we/any of us who didn't do the projects -- are stuck. Your irritation should be directed at your colleagues -- not at the inspector.
