Devori,

we've been virtually acquainted for a long time. You hardly have a
reason to suspect a lack of integrity in my postings. There is no
hidden agenda. I do not get paid for every soul I manage to divert
from the righteous course of serving the People in the capacity of
educator.

And believe me: I love teaching. But not unconditionally.

I love:

- seeing my students improve their ability to understand what they read;
- seeing them finding certain pleasure in the process;
- seeing gratitude in their eyes when they realize that the progress
they've made was the fruit not only of their own efforts but of my
guidance, etc.

I hate:
- endless and useless meetings;
- zero-motivation classes
- nasty parents
- bullying administration
- overcrowded teachers rooms
- lots of unpaid-for work
- meager paychecks
- indifferent unions

Should I go on?

I am not saying people should not pursue a career of an English
teacher. But working conditions as they are today should serve as a
deterrent.

What do I suggest? Take a look at my old postings in the ETNI
archives. I can only repeat the things I said four-five-seven-ten
years back:

1. STOP PAYING YOUR UNION DUES. Everyone. Now.
2. Change the face of the Irgun - fast! - or create your own professional union.
3. Once you have a union, fight for better employment conditions: good
pay, smaller classes, and unconditional respect.

I know you will not do it now.

I know you will do it - much later, after a lot of unnecessary pain
and humiliation.

Then you will be able to say two things:

- you love teaching
- you are happy with your job.

At the moment, you can only say the first one. Yes, I heard you. Let's
see how long it takes you to do something to achieve the second part.

Are we on the same page now?
