Subject: categorizing library books Dear Etniers, This year our school is participating in the Jade BarShalom Books 4 Israel project. We have been receiving hundreds of excellent library books and are in the process of sorting them out. Our English library is presently color coded according to levels, from level 1-7, + a native speakers' section, more or less according to the criteria for simplified readers. The new books
are all authentic, (i.e. NOT simplified readers) and we are finding it difficult to decide how to divide them. Our English coodinator had an idea - why not change the whole system, and divide ALL the books into 3 levels - foundation, intermediate, and proficiency? That is - levels 1-2 will be coded foundation, levels 3,4, and maybe 5 will become intermediate, andlevels 6+ will be labeled proficiency. I am interested in your opinion. Has
any other school divided their books this way? Do you think this is a good idea? Can you forsee any problems with only 3 levels of books? Personally, I would tend to leave the lower level books as is, and maybe put levels 5 and up into one category, i.e. advanced readers. Looking forward to your comments and suggestions, Renee Binyamini ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - www.etni.org ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
