Subject: Re: certification question

Hi.
My wife and I are planning on moving to Israel in the next year or so. I
have been working the last 12 years in a k-8 district in NJ. I am certified
as a school media specialist (or, as I like to say - a librarian) and also a
k-8 teacher. I am considering getting my TESOL certification here in the
States before I leave for Israel.
I am a bit confused by the information I am reading online. With US teacher
and TESOL certification can I find a job teaching English in Israel or do I
need to complete a year-long Ministry of Education course? Is it more
worthwhile to get TESOL certification also in Israel if I already need to
take a year off studying? Is there a stipend for these courses?
My Hebrew is pretty good. Though I would not consider myself fluent, I can
speak, read and write on a fairly high level. I lived in Israel previously
with my wife from 1979-1989. (I am 52 years old.) We would greaty prefer to
relocate either to the Negev or the Upper Galilee.
Any clarifications or information regarding the job market would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael Brown
