They don't have to indent, but if they don't indent, they do have to leave a
blank line between paragraphs. That's the only way to actually know if
they've written in paragraphs or not.

And while we're on the subject of paragraphs, starting each new sentence on
a new line is NOT the same as writing in paragraphs. I have no idea where
the kids learn this, but my own students often do it (at the beginning of
the year) and I've seen lots and lots of Bagrut compositions written like
this.

Another very odd mistake that I see occasionally is kids who start each line
with a capital letter (rather than each sentence). And yes, I'm talking
about 5 pointers.

Subject: format of formal letter - re: indenting

Dear Etniers,
Boring and hair-splitting as it is .... as far as I know, for around 30
years now, it is no longer compulsory or even desirable to indent
paragraphs
in formal letters. However, there are high school teachers who still take
marks off perfectly good letters, for failing to indent. Please can anyone
confirm whether marks are taken off in the actual Bagrut if the pupil
doesn't indent.
Thanks
