Hi ..

Two grammar verifications:

One of my students read a sentence from an exercise about the PAST SIMPLE /
PROGRESSIVE the other day. The sentence goes like this: " I
_____________(visit) my neighbour yesterday, and the whole time I
___________(be), her children _______________ (fight).

I was expecting to hear "visited" when my student read "was visiting". It
sounded fine to me. Is it correct?
Is this sentence correct? The context is a letter written to a friend abroad
and this question comes in the first paragraph:
"Have you enjoyed the presents I sent you?"

I know there are better ways to ask the question, but after much thought
about the use of the Present Perfect, I can't seem to find anything wrong
here.

Hope you have time for this! I appreciate your help in advance.
