Subject: listening comprehension

I agree with Kobi completely. I'm tired of wandering the halls every bagrut loaded down with extra battery-powered radio machines just in case one of the machines already set up in the classrooms fails for some reason. In addition to sudden interference from the local station, test proctors often hit the tuning knob instead of the volume knob or push the AM/FM switch instead of the ON/TAPE switch (despite the extra labels that I stick on every machine). And of course there are the occasional hitches beyond our control, like the year the test was broadcast nationally on the wrong station, or the time when reshet gimmel mysteriously disappeared from the air waves in Eilat. And of course checking out the radio broadcast is done in the middle of testing pupils orally. ("Hold on for a few minutes while I zip upstairs to make sure all the radios are working.") Once upon a time, checking the listening broadcast was the main event of the bagrut. But nowadays with all the logistics involved in the module system, plus the increase in pupil dispensations demanding our attention, why can't the listening be carried out via cassettes or CDs?
