A colleague and I had a debate the other day as to whether or not it is 
acceptable to put a period at the VERY end of a letter (AFTER the name which 
comes AFTER the salutation).  I had never seen this in the US, but many of 
my Israelis students do this.  What is your point of view?

EXAMPLE:

Sincerely yours,

John Smith.  (Should this period be here or not?)
