I'd choose option b mainly because 70 % attendance takes off 5-10 points and
so would no quizzes and no portfolios. We mustn't forget that we are here to
educate and not only teach English and if we "forgive" the pupil we actually
teach him that's it's not such a"mishap" not to comply with the rules.

50% 'matconet' exam marks
20% classwork, homework, quizzes

20% literature portfolio/test marks

this semester, did virtually NO homework, took NONE of the quizzes, had NO

averages about a 75.

>What yearly grade would you give him and why?
a) 45 or lower because he hasn't met the requirements and I go by the
book.
b) 57-ish or my school's equivalent of the lowest passing grade as I
want to stay close to my proposed plan but I don't want to hurt the poor boy
who is, after all, about to go into the army and will have a hard enough
life without his English teacher being so strict.
c) In the neighborhood of 75 because that is what he'll get on the test
and I don't want a letter reprimanding me for a large gap or endangering my
school's ability to give 'magen' grades.
d) In the neighborhood of 85 because my class's grades reflect on my
teaching and I don't want to lower the class average
e) Other _____________

>I know of actual teachers from different schools who have given each of the
answers from "a" to "d" and I've heard a few 'other' responses.
Perhaps worse, I know of different teachers from within the same staff of
the same school who responded differently.
