Having just read Sharon Tzur's magnificent post I am quaking, and just
hoping that my early retirement will come into fruition double quick. I have
an MA in Lit,have not taken the course yet because of the Irgun Sanctions,
and I am dreading having my "soul bird" throttled. Teaching whatever
literature I like is what is keeping me in the profession up till now.If
that is taken away from me.... I dread to think!
Does the Ministry not think any good ,worthwhile literature has been written
in the English Language since I started teaching 29 years ago?
I have ,for example, seen many wonderful presentations at Etai by different
teachers, of all kinds of more modern, interesting and relevant pieces of
literature. So ,it leads one to suspect that the Ministry chose those pieces
because that's what they had handy on the shelf in that old brown collection
we used to use way back when!
I belong to a book club,as do many teachers of my acquaintance, and we are
always scouring around for something new and stimulating to read. As Sharon
says "why didn't they ask US"?? But it seems they never ask us....
Shame, really.
