Exactly. In Modiin the situation is really severe. Some high schools sent the
parents to look for English and Arabic teachers. They put notices on
mailinglists and started approaching people who had been formerly employed in
hi-tech and supposedly have "good English"! One school couldn't even find a
teacher for a native sp group! Many classes had to do without teachers for
weeks. But again-no one cares so it won't further our cause. Those same parents
whose kids had no teachers for weeks and some of whom I happen to know
personally, were just very angry at the coordinators of those subjects who ,in
their opinion ,weren't doing their job! They did not draw OUR conclusion,
Jennifer, that teachers' conditions are the root of the problem! People just
aren't going there! And the gov knows it.

I agree Jennifer, but what do you suggest we do exactly?
We had a two month strike last year and as far as I can see our situation
did not improve at all!
what now?

Principal of Seminar Hakibbutzim was being interviewed.  It appears that
only 400 new elementary school teachers graduate every year from ALL the
teachers' seminaries in the country, whereas 2000 a year are needed.  Why,
he was asked?  Because the salaries are too low to live on!!

the pupils I teach is the volunteer math teacher at her grandson's school -
for the second year running!  There is no English teacher at the school of
another student, so the head teacher has taken over.  Am I talking about
Hatzor Haglilit?  Eilat? Ofakim?  No.  Right here in what is known as Bikat
Ono - the wealthy centre of the country.
