Dear Hots Dropout and others, On my first sabattical I enroled in a Hebrew lit class at Tel Hai College, figuring that i should deal with my ignorance. To my horror, the instructor merely dictated what the literary devices and the meaning were. I did not last long! I know that Hebrew lit is not always taught like that, but it sometimes is. . . . In my opinion, the HOTS had its merit in being a stick to force all teachers to teach literature, even if it meant upgrading themselves to the level required to teach literature. But a teacher who liked to bring exciting creative material in, not always following her own year plan, was no longer able to because there just isn't time. / his Barry S. By the way , I'll consider teaching the HOTS if someone will put them into song or chant form, like Tom Lehrer did with the chemical elements. Any takers?
