In this day and age knowing reasonable English is very important and people can really ruin their careers, as we see in the "your mother" incident. I know that it is old hat - we have all cringed when hearing our leaders sound like dopes when they are talking on the TV and "kol hacavod" to the mayor of Jerusalem who is learning English. I really hope that this strike will be more successful than the past ones. I personally left teaching in the high school system after going out to work as a temporary typist during a strike. When I saw how much appreciation I recieved and how nicely I was spoken too, going back to school after the strike was like going down in the world. Good luck to all the strikers - it is a very sad thing that our grandchildren are going to suffer if teachers are not respected. We can see how good relying on a computer for translation is!
