Hello everyone
One of the big problems in Israel is the overconfidence of people who claim
they know English. In this day and age knowing reasonable English is very
important and people can really ruin their careers, as we see in the "your
mother" incident. I know that it is old hat - we have all cringed when
hearing our leaders sound like dopes when they are talking on the TV and
"kol hacavod" to the mayor of Jerusalem who is learning English.

I really hope that this strike will be more successful than the past ones. I
personally left teaching in the high school system after going out to work
as a temporary typist during a strike. When I saw how much appreciation I
recieved and how nicely I was spoken too, going back to school after the
strike was like going down in the world.

Good luck to all the strikers - it is a very sad thing that our
grandchildren are going to suffer if teachers are not respected. We can
see how good relying on a computer for translation is!

Fay
