This isn't exactly a joke, but a very simple word game that always gets a good smile from everyone -- no matter what grade they are in:
What is the longest word in the English language? When I was a boy, we used to say that "antidisestablishmentarianism" was the longest word.
But after checking in the dictionary, I discovered that there isn't really any such word. Then I repeat the question and write "S M I L E S" on the board.
I add "Between the first letter and the last letter, there is a whole mile."
