Subject: RE: format of formal letter - re: indenting Dear All, I've never heard of taking marks off for not indenting. However, even though it is not necessary, I still insist my students indent at the beginning of a paragraph in any composition for the Bagrut - not just for formal letters. The reason is simply pragmatic! Many students have large writing and then it's almost impossible to tell where the old paragraph ends and a new paragraph starts, especially if the last sentence of the previous one finishes at the end of a line.Although some students manage to write neatly and whose handwriting is small
enough to leave a desired gap between paragraphs, many essays appear to be one long paragraph from beginning to end. Enjoy life, Patricia Leonie wrote:
Boring and hair-splitting as it is .... as far as I know, for around 30 years now, it is no longer compulsory or even desirable to indent paragraphs in formal letters. However, there are high school teachers who still take marks off perfectly good letters, for failing to indent. Please can anyone confirm whether marks are taken off in the actual Bagrut if the pupil doesn't indent.
