I've never heard that usage, except among my Israeli students. It was a FUN party -- I had a lot of fun there. According to Merriam-Webster, "fun" is both a noun and an adjective, depending on how you use it. Although "fun" and "funny" certainly derive from the same word, I don't believe that "funny" is the adjective form of the noun "fun".
