Shalom Etniers,

These two words have similar and different meanings. The key
lies in collocations - which nouns, adjectives or verbs go with these two words.

I'd like to recommend two wonderful books and 2 dictionaries
I purchased when I did the translation course a few years back.

1. The BBI combinatory Dictionary of English by John Benjamins
Publishing Company.

2. The LTP Selected Dictionary of Collocations. Language
Teachers Publications.

3. The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English which comes
with a diskette for use on the computer

4. Oxford Collocations

I use these books all the time to find the correct collocations for words.
I generally teach a verb with a noun and so on.

There are some things one can fix but not repair and vice versa.
In my opinion, collocations are one of the most interesting aspects of
teaching a foreign language.

to repair damage, roof, shoes
to fix brakes, the problem, lamp

All the best,
Iris.

Someone asked me if there was a difference between "repair" and "fix".
Any clarifications will be welcomed!
