First of all -- different people have given different salary figures although it seems we are veteran (20+ and Ruth says 29!) teachers, MA and I assume, most teachers also have the ceiling 24.75 gmulim -- which is approximately another 25% of one's salary . When Bari says net or gross -- other issues must be accounted for as well: net or gross for a mother with children under 14 : not a big difference because of tax breaks, and yes, you can have 20+ years experience with young children. You can even be over 50 with the young children (especially today!) The question is "schar meshulav" BASE SALARY vs all the other issues: does it include bagrut classes? "rikuz of English", hinuch, other administrative positions, living in "preferred areas," gmulim for hishtalmuyot, increments for 87, 94, 2001, 2008???? I personally feel that a new teacher should start at whatever level of experience he or she has attained in any other field -- ( I left teaching for 10 years and worked in tourism -- misrad hahinuch refused to add it to my vetek ) if they have 5 years in hi tech, fine, if they have 20 years inhi-tech, fine -- but it is inconceivable for the unemployed applicant who has worked for 5 years in computers to start at the salary of a 20 year teacher. Also, one must ask -- will they accrue benefits (pension, vacations) or is it per diem (per day for hours taught) only? AND -- I suggest that everyone has their salary check carefuly eamined because these discrepancies sound very problematic to me Eleanor ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
