Hi,

Re: suggestions for student websites

One site good for English speakers is the Israel HighWay (www.israelhighway.org) -- a free email (and online) weekly newsletter about Israel written for American teenagers but perfectly suitable for English speakers in Israel as well.

The Israel HighWay includes an in-depth weekly topic ranging from disengagement updates to a look at Israel's social gaps, to Israel's struggle to preserve its wildlife, and even lighter topics such as the entertainment industry in Israel and it's growing prominence in the global sports arena. See some of our previous issues at http://www.israelhighway.org/archive.html.

Each issue also includes hyperlinked excerpts of articles on Israeli contributions to the world in the areas of technology, medicine, science, as well as highlights on Israeli sports, entertainment and culture. Opinion pieces on Israeli politics and student-authored essays are featured, as well as highlights of Israel-related projects in camps, schools and youth groups across North America, and group trips to Israel.

The Israel HighWay is distributed to students in grades 9-12 in the US. We also have a monthly educators issue that is distributed by email only.

Please note that we love to receive student-authored articles written by Israelis about their lives in Israel -- our American teens are very interested in reading first-hand accounts by Israelis about their everyday lives or about larger Israeli political issues. If you know of a student who has good English writing skills, this would be a perfect exercise or homework assignment for them.

The Israel HighWay is published by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, prepared by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and sponsored by a grant from The AVI CHAI Foundation.

I would be happy to answer any questions about the Israel HighWay.

Hi. I've been asked to put together the English corner on our school's website. I'd like to have links for sites appropriate for 7 - 12th grades (from English speakers to "Lo Hevanti Kloom") so students can practice their language skills and reading comprehension. I'd appreciate personal recommendations - what have you found that is user friendly and FREE? If relevant, please list the suitability according to grade/level. Thanks.
Rachelle
