We have English teachers, madrichim, mefakchim and others who teach at our teachers' colleges. What if - just what if - HOTS became a part of THEIR curriculum? If they taught it to third-year students, within a year or so we'd have a cadre of teachers, spread around the country, who could teach literature and also help their various English staffs with it. Why does every new idea go through people who should be getting paid for their time instead of students? This is not to say I'm nuts about HOTS. In the 80's in the US and the 90's here, metacognition was the big buzz word. Talk about how you learn, what skills you are using, what strategies you have employed, etc. It was found beneficial for Reading Comprehension but not much else. Things are good for their times - Mr. Peabody's showmates Boris and Natasha reflected a political reality that no longer exists. HOTS reflect a theory that had its heyday but doesn't necessarily work. -- "Music will save the world."
