"How to Protect and Help Children when War is Occurring in World"
The news has been filled with stories about the war in the Middle East. This can have a profound effect on children. Children are affected by the way the adults in their lives feel. Just as they can "catch" moods of enthusiasm from a teacher, they can also "catch" fear and worry and anger. Here are some positive things you can do to help children:

1. Acknowledge their feelings. "Sounds like you are scared."
2. Have younger children draw what they are feeling.
3. Have older children journal.
4. Do not deny the seriousness of the situation.
5. Do offer hope. This is very important.
6. Keep a routine. Routines help children feel more secure.
7. Limit media most especially the news in front of children.
8. Children will feel more in control by taking positive actions. The children can make and send things to those in the military.
9. Find opportunities to have fun. Children need to have times to be silly.
10. Create even more opportunities for movement. Build them into the day. Moving around reduces stress.

Have a great week-end and remember you are a difference maker in the lives of children.
