The  Third  Wave

How did it happen?   How did a nation go mad?
How were normal people transformed into brutes, devoid of humanity?

Ron Jones, a first-year high school Social Studies teacher, was asked
questions like these by his students as he taught his World War II
unit. Rather than respond with lectures, however, Mr. Jones created a
simulation, which, he hoped, would guide his students to discover the
answers for themselves.

This true story of a life-changing disturbing week in the lives of Ron
Jones, his students and their school, is brought to life in JEST's
upcoming presentation of the drama,  The Third Wave, written by Ron
Jones himself, with playwright, Joseph Robinette.

JEST is proud to bring this evening of theatre to our audiences, since
it is a vehicle which challenges us even as it entertains.  We invite
you to witness what happened in a high school classroom in Palo Alto,
California, in l967.  And, perhaps you will have a greater
understanding of how people could have been, not aberrant monsters or
freaks of history, but people not unlike ourselves.

Ron Jones, with who we have been in contact, is delighted that we will
be doing his play for the first time, in English, in Israel.

The play will be presented at the theatre at Kibbutz Ramat Rachel, on
February 27 and 28;  March 5, 6, and 7 2013.
