I once had a 3 point class and did a travel project with them. They
chose a country and did the ID of it - capital, countries that
bordered it, language etc. They also filled out a "form" with their
name, Passport number - the kind one gets on the plane or at hotels to
fill out. Mainly it was looking towards the future and making them
realize that English is needed when one travels, and teaching them the
necessary vocab. Other topics included foods eaten with an option of
a recipe, two interesting places, something about the capital, what
the country is famous for etc. The boys mostly chose a country which
was famous for football, the girls for fashion or films!!
Anyway it was a success, they enjoyed doing it, it was simple, and I
felt they were learning things needed in the outside world.
Another project is choosing two songs in English, comparing them and
the bands. Writing about the singers - where they lived their rise
to fame etc. They had to translate the words of the song to Hebrew
and so learnt what the songs were about. Advantage of this one is
that they are songs they choose and like.
