Hi all, If you have comments, information about protests, etc. - concerning the elimination of the program for immigrant teachers, please respond to Raphael Ahren, a reporter for Haaretz, regarding his request below. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Raphael Ahren <raphael.ahren@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, Oct 26, 2010 at 10:02 AM Subject: Haaretz article about elimination of program for immigrant English teachers To: david@xxxxxxxx, ask@xxxxxxxx Dear Mr. Lloyd, I am a reporter for the English Edition of Haaretz and I am currently working on a story about the recent decision by the Education Ministry to cancel its long-running accreditation program for immigrant English teachers, which apparently concurred with the firing of the so-called Morim Olim. I was hoping ETNI could comment on this issue for my article: * How does ETNI think about the Ministry's decision? * What do you expect to be the consequence of this move, if any? How will it impact on immigrant teachers' absorption to Israel? Could it be said that it will prevent teachers from immigrating? * How do you respond to the Education Ministry spokeswoman's explanation, who told the Jerusalem Post that "the move was made ... following recommendations in the State Comptroller’s report to streamline the process. The new olim teachers would now be able to receive assistance from the education departments in their regions, she said, just as do native-born and locally trained teachers." * Are you currently undertaking or planning any steps to protest the ministry's move? Thank you very much in advance for responding to my questions at your earliest convenience (my deadline is Wednesday afternoon). Sincerely, Raphael Ahren Haaretz English Edition +972(0)7 752 30865 +972(0)50 750 7499 raphael.ahren@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
