---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Esther Revivo" <dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> (Redacted sender "estherrevivo@xxxxxxxxx" for DMARC) Subject: Logs This is in response to Dina:"As I and my fellow teachers understand, from this year, 10th graders are not required anymore to keep all the literature work till 12th grade. Each unit will be handed in seperately. Is that correct? Or should we tell the students to keep a folder with six dividers just in case...?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In all honesty,"tachlis," I've no idea what the above means. What I WILL say is this: You can tell me that I am not teaching my pupils responsibility until you are blue in the face.....but to ensure MY ability to sleep nights, the moment we finish a unit of the Log, that unit's 'sakit' comes to ME, is graded, returned to them to see my remarks and IMMEDIATELY returned to me to go into their loose leaf folder log. I do this for MY sanity. The early years of the HOTS program I dealt with multiple excuses ranging from, "My Mom threw out the papers while Pesach cleaning," "I lent it to such and so to copy something from when she was in the hospital and she lost it," "My brother took it by mistake to his Yeshiva Tichonit and can't find it." Hence, when absent my pupils are responsible for making up work; I run after nobody. AND, when a unit is completed it is immediately given to me for safekeeping. I value my sanity more than teaching them responsibility at this stage of the game. There are enough other opportunities to work on responsibility (i.e. checking homework assignments; during work on our projects,) that I don't feel the least bit guilty. Good luck to everyone, and especially to those like myself who will be entering classrooms of pupils who went through the war! May תשע"ה be a much better year than the past one for us all!
