Since I teach in both the JHS and SHS. I am in both Oz and Ofek. The school figured out the percentages of hours I need to be there according to each contract and I rechecked them by visiting the unions' websites and it was OK. Ofek is definitely a better contract for JHS tachers. Oz gives a bit more money. According to Oz one needs to be in school for 40 hours a week. An hour is 60 minutes. According to Ofek one needs to be in school 36 hours a week. An hour is 45 or 50 minutes. In Ofek, you can get paid overtime for meetings etc - up to 18 hours a semester. In Oz you take off the extra time from time you're required to stay in school. If you have decent principals, it all works out. I use all the time in school to work - check, plan etc. It's annoying because I would rather be at home and also I still have to take work home. Teachers of other subjects, especially math, don't seem to have as much checking and planning as we do so they do a lot of sitting around, but I am always busy with work during the extra hours I now must stay at school for. Before these contracts, I often spent more time at school checking etc just so I wouldn't have to lug home kilos of paper. Now I get paid for work I did anyway. Granted, it's not at the same rate as teaching hours before, but it's still more money. As for the "partani", well, we did it anyhow. Don't we all sit with kids individiually or in small groups? Sometimes more, sometimes less but how could we do our job properly without it? It's annoying that it's a requirement. But again, at least we're getting paid for work we did anyhow. Are the agreements ideal? No. Are they fair? No. Is it better than before? I think so but who knows. There is so much "fekocked" about our school system that I just try to enjoy what I can and try very hard not to get too annoyed about the rest. Usually unsuccessfully.
