Subject: Ofek Hadash
Last year I was able to get an exemption from joining Ofek because of
my age (60). This year I also asked for an exemption but I see that
the school has me down for Ofek hours. I don’t know if my request was
denied or if it’s even possible to keep asking for exemptions year
after year. My question is for the older teachers out there who have
joined Ofek. Has it been worthwhile? Did you notice an increase in
salary? Did you lose much in terms of pitzul and other gmulim?
Also, my school is a 6 year school. I have 8 hours in the junior high
and 9 in the high school (which hasn’t yet joined Oz, but will
probably be doing so soon).
Is there a point in waiting (if possible) to see if Oz will have a new
reform that will encompass a 6 year program. I’ve heard of so many
complications in being paid according to different systems.
