---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: byk <byk@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: The Modular Bagrut (cont.) I was happy to see the response to my letter by Adele Raemer and Miriam Grief, and I do know that the Ministry tries to prevent teachers teaching to the test, particularly in Junior High School. However, and this is a big however, ... if a modular exam exists, it is inevitable that, however much one tries to prevent its misuse, ways are going to be found to circumvent the original intentions, to the great detriment of Engliish teaching. Many schools are forcing teachers to get their pupils to take the first module in 10th grade, and this includes pupils taking the 3 point exam (A, B and C). Of course, and unavoidably, even good teachers start teaching to the test, and this then continues throughout High School. I mentioned that a pupil in grade 9 was using a module 'C' unseens book. Of course they also have regular course books, and literature. My objection is the same as Adele's; these books are not methodical, and, in many ways, counterproductive. They certainly waste the precious little time available to English teachers today.
