In the middle of last year I distributed many lists which I thought would be useful to teachers of English. I have now expanded each of them and added a new list. The lists are numbered from 1 to 16. They are listed below and are printed in alphabetical order. Heteronyms (e,g, Accent a part of the same word for a different meaning: CONtent , conTENT, DEfect, deFECT) 7. Homonyms (e.g. affair: a business matter and an amorous relationship) 8. Homophones (e.g. all and awl, cellar and seller) 9. Idioms (e.g. All ears, Thumbs up) 10. Onomatopoeia (e.g. bang, splash) 11. Palindromes (e.g. able was I ere I saw Elba) 12. Reversed Words (e.g. deliver à reviled, desserts à stressed) 13. Review of Basic English Grammar (e.g. Plurals of nouns, punctuation, etc.) 14. Spelling Difficult English Words (e.g. caustic, gauge, massacre 15. Transliterations from English directly into Hebrew (banana and telephone) 16. Word Processing (e.g. spelling and grammar checkers, word wrap, famous gaffes, troublesome transpositions) I would be delighted to know which, if any, of the 16 categories listed above proved to be worthwhile.
