Subject: Which kindle?

Dear Friends

I actually just ordered my third Kindle. I gave my Kindle keyboard to
my parents when I bought a Kindle Touch and now I've ordered the new
Kindle PaperWhite. I love reading from Kindle and do almost all my
reading on it.. Except for Shabbat.

I don't recommend Kindle Fire if you want your Kindle mainly for
reading. The other kindles use e-ink technology, which is easier in
the eyes than the backlit kindle fire. Kindle fire uses the back lit
technology of tablets, though it has the advantage of a color screen
and might be a good choice if you want to play games and surf the
Internet. It also costs about twice as much as other Kindles and
if you mainly want to read, the other Kindles are better. You can
read them for hours...like a book.

The PaperWhite is the newest one. It comes with front lighting built
in, so you can read it in the dark, and it is easier on the eyes when
reading in low light conditions. I understand that it has better
contrast and a sharper screen than previous kindles. The one I ordered
is waiting for me at my parents home in Philadelphia so I haven't
tried it out yet... what I've written about the sharper screen is
based on reviews I read on the Internet.

The first Kindle I ordered I had shipped straight to my home here in
Israel. I had to pay a sizable deposit for import tax but most of that
money was eventually refunded because in the end, the tax was not that
high. It might even be lower now due to a recent change in import tax
laws, Shipping directly through Amazon will probably be cheaper than
buying from any store or importer in Israel.

This time, since I'm not in a rush, I had it shipped to my parents in
Philadelphia- lower shipping charge and no import tax. They will use
it till my next visit at which time I will take it. It will then be
used and not subject to import tax.
