I would suggest letting him choose library books with a lot of pictures that are high interest with low reading level: for example, "the Foot Book" (Dr. Suess) and "Go Dog Go". Also, "Amelia Bedelia". Humor is the key to keeping him interested in reading. In addition, encourage him to read the books out loud to parents at least three times each. You can make a chart for repeated readings with a prize for so many books read. This is the best way to help him begin to recognize sight words. There are also a number of apps that I use, if this is an option. Feel free to correspond with me. Leah Urso Reading Specialist M.Ed.
