Here's an item from the "Classifying" worksheet:
B Circle the 3 items in each of the following groups that can be
classifed together into
one category. Write a name for the group.
  1. whale shark girafe dolphin chimpanzee
............................................
  2. eggs broccoli toast meatballs cereal
...............................................
  3. Mississippi atlantic Nile Pacifc arctic
..............................................
  4. operating table butter knife surgeon
plumber teacher ..........................

For item 1, some students may not select the 3 sea creatures but select the
3 words that contain more than one syllable. Giraffe should be spelled with
two Fs.

For item 2, some students may not select the 3 plant foods but again select
the 3 words that contain more than one syllable.

For item 3, some students may select the 3 oceans but classify them as words
ending in "ic". An i is missing in Pacific and Atlantic and Arctic should
begin with a capital letter.

And for item 4, students may select the 3 job titles but classify them as
single words rather than compounds ... or select the first 3 as terms
because they do not end with "er".

From the Explaining Patterns worksheet:

Complete the next item in each series. Explain the pattern.
series # 2.: 1 3 6 10 15
..............

Most students may notice that beginning with the pair 3 and 6, the
difference between the numbers in each pair is 1 more than the difference
between the numbers in the previous pair.
That is, 3 - 1 = 2. 6 - 3 = 3. 10 - 6 = 4. 15 - 10 = 5. Therefore, the next
number is 15 + 6 = 21.

However, some students may claim that beginning with the number 3, the next
number is 1 + 2 times the current number minus the previous number. That is,

1 + (2 x 3) - 1 = 6
1 + (2 x 6) - 3 = 10
1 + (2 x 10) - 6 = 15
Therefore, the next number is
1 + (2 x 15) - 10 = 21
