Last night while watching the news, I was reminded of an episode of "the Simpsons" in which Homer is called up for jury service. When he finds out that the jury is going to be cloistered in a plush hotel with cable TV, room service and all the works, he decides to make the most of it by keeping the discussion going for as long as possible in what is ostensibly an open-and-shut case. This episode came to mind when I saw our esteemed leader, Ran Erez and his minions enter a 5 star hotel to start negotiations with representatives of the Finance and Education Ministries. I was not surprised therefore to hear that little progress had been made in the talks by the end of the day and that they would be resumed today. The solution seems very simple to me. Stick all of these fatcats in a room with just a table and chairs and without any state-funded bourekas, lock the door and tell them that they can only come out when they have reached a decision which will allow all of us to get on with our lives. This strike has gone on far too long in my opinion. Enough already. Still, at least today is the day that I get to see the first love of my life, Tottenham Hotspur who will be playing Hapoel Tel Aviv this evening in the UEFA Cup in Bloomfield. I haven't seen them for years. Being a teacher means that I can only go to England in the summer which is the close-season as far as football is concerned, but I'm going to enjoy every moment of today and try to put this damn strike behind me for once. I'll be there with my sons and a bunch of Spurs-supporting mates cheering the team on. COME ON YOU SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a good day David
