Hello everyone, I don't usually write to the list. I am more of a lurker but this time I felt compelled to answer. Ariella wrote: "This afternoon as I was going over the instructions for handing in the final completed log, one of my students said that he feels that three years of English have been wasted on this program and he does not feel that doing the logs have prepared him for using English in the real world. Several other students jumped on the bandwagon and complained about the program. True most of the kids who complained were the ones who have not been working, but the first boy is a serious student who has made great efforts to complete all of the requirements." Three years of English have not been wasted. I believe that if these students feel this way it is because they did not do the work properly. Before the log, students use to say that you don't have to study for English - either you know it or don't which is of course wrong. No student today says that. Moreover, it is making the very "bright students" that don't want to work understand that they MUST work in order to succeed. Kids have been reading and writing a lot more than before and paying attention to their work, learning by sending back and forth their work. True, it is a lot of work for both students and teachers, but it is rewarding work. This is my 4th year working with the logs and most of my kids are really proud of the work they are doing. True there are always those who complain about the hard work but it is natural. We are here to educate and I am a strong believer that hard work leads to success. Hag Sameah!
