Dear Colleagues,

Amotz Asa El sent a response this morning to my last letter, and I am
sending that along with my final response to him. Some people..

Have a great week,

Dear Jodi

If you "know nothing of junior high," which comprises a full one third of
your strike's victims then -- with all due respect to your thorough
familiarity with your personal situation -- you are in no position to
discuss the massive disturbance of the public order into which your union
has maneuvered all of us.

Amotz Asa-El

Dear Amotz,

As I pointed out to you already, this strike is organized by "Irgun
Ha'Morim", the professional Teacher's Union, which represents in the vast
majority High School teachers. Junior High schools represent far less than
a third of our membership, mostly belonging to the "Histadrut", but let that
be, in a democracy, one deals with the majority.

As for my "knowing nothing" of Junior High, as I've never taught in one, I
volunteered that information, firstly, as I have spent 17 years teaching in
High School, which more than amply qualifies me to discuss a High School
related strike.

Secondly, it was a relevant statement, as I, unlike many others including
the Dovrat commission , our illustrious Education Minister, and evidently
yourself, don't like to hold court upon subjects of which I am completely
ignorant.

Lastly, it is the government, with inane offers such as 1.5% (60 shekels a
month in my case) which has dragged this strike out beyond all expectations,
not my Union. Just like the famous New York Teachers Strike in the early
60's, we are being left with no viable alternative. That strike ended,
after several horrible months, with a school system overhaul which is an
enviable model to this day for both teachers and students.

As you have consistently chosen to ignore the base of my argument, and have
dealt only with fringe trivialities, I can only assume your mind is already
made up. Therefore it seems that further correspondence would be a complete
waste of time for both of us.

Wishing you well,

Jodi Schenck
